Watch again as Rishi Sunak faced Sir Keir Starmer at Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday 29 November. Mr Sunak suffered a blow this week as a major international forecast showed that Britain is set to suffer the highest inflation and the second-slowest growth rate in the G7. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has reduced its forecast UK growth rate for 2024. Growth across the global economy has been stronger than expected but is beginning to slow as higher interest rates, weaker trade and lower business and consumer confidence take a toll, economists for the globally recognised organisation said. Britain is forecast to have the slowest gross domestic product (GDP) this year and next year, other than Germany, of the G7. The G7 also incorporates France, Italy, the US, Canada and Japan. UK GDP is expected to be 0.5 per cent this year, higher than the OECD’s September forecast of 0.3% for 2023. It is then set to increase slightly to 0.7 per cent across next year, a downgrade from 0.8 per cent projected growth in the previous forecast, before averaging at 1.2 per cent over 2025. Watch the full exchange as Keir Starmer grilled Rishi Sunak over Elgin Marbles row at the PMQs on 29 November. In his opening remarks, the Labour leader joked: "In an effort to hide from his failures, the Prime Minister spent this week arguing about an ancient relic that only a tiny minority of the British public have any interest in – Mr Speaker, that’s enough about the Tory Party." The Elgin Marbles have been the centre of much discussion after Rishi Sunak cancelled a meeting with the Greek prime minister in which Kyriakos Mitsotakis was planning to discuss their return. Rishi Sunak "is literally the worst person to be leading this country through a cost-of-living crisis," says Labour's Chris Bryant, urging the prime minister to "stop lecturing" people. The prime minister says he's doing "the right thing" to support families Sunak risks failing against the very promises he told voters to judge him by. At the beginning of January, the premier set five pledges he said would be the test of his performance. They were to halve inflation, grow the economy, reduce the national debt, shrink National Health Service waiting lists and stop migrants crossing the English Channel. “I fully expect you to hold my government and I to account on delivering those goals,” Sunak said. But six months on, inflation is proving sticky, recession is becoming more likely, and debt has risen, leading Bank of America Corp. strategists to characterize the UK as the “stagflationary sick man of Europe.” Meanwhile, hospital waiting lists are at a record and boats full of migrants continue to land on England’s shores. A diplomatic row has broken out between the British and Greek governments over the Elgin Marbles. The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was due to meet Rishi Sunak in London, but No 10 cancelled the meeting at the last minute. A spokesman for the Greek prime minister told the BBC that he was "disappointed" the meeting had been cancelled "at the 11th hour". The cancellation came the day after Mr Mitsotakis said the marbles should be returned. The marbles are ancient Greek treasures in the British Museum brought to the UK by the British diplomat Lord Elgin in the early 19th Century. Sir Keir Starmer accused the prime minister of "losing his marbles" as Rishi Sunak said Greece's leader was "grandstanding" in a row over the Elgin Marbles. Mr Sunak looked uncomfortable as the Labour leader delivered one-liners and put-downs in exchanges over the diplomatic spat with Greece. The PM cancelled his meeting with Greece's leader at the last minute in a row over the return of the ancient artefacts. Sources say the Greek leader was left "baffled, surprised and not a little bit annoyed" amid reports Greece backtracked on assurances ministers would not attempt to discuss the fate of the treasures. Rishi Sunak's decision to cancel a meeting with the Greek Prime Minister over the Elgin Marbles has sparked controversy and criticism. Many view this move as highly inappropriate and undiplomatic, especially considering Greece is an ally. Nadine Dorries argues that Sunak's lack of political experience may have played a role in this faux pas, saying the PM is "not big enough" to deal with such international issues. Nadine Dorries goes on to accuse Rishi Sunak of being a puppet, saying "he isn't the decision taker...there are people who make bizarre decisions around him", and argues that the plot to replace Boris Johnson with Rishi Sunak started back in 2019. #nadinedorries #borisjohnson #rishisunak #theplot

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was welcomed by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at his residence in London Wednesday, holding talks focused on trade, technology and defense. Yoon arrived on Monday for his formal three-day visit. On Tuesday, Yoon was treated to both royal and diplomatic pomp, including a ceremonial welcome with military honor guards, an opportunity to address Parliament and a state banquet hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. A defense agreement will see the two countries' navies work together to curb smuggling and to enforce U.N. sanctions imposed on North Korea to curb its nuclear weapons ambitions. U.K. and Korean officials also will officially launch talks on an “upgraded” free trade agreement to replace their current deal, which largely replicates the arrangements the U.K. had before it left the European Union.
